MUN Western Formals — What to Actually Wear
// THE SYNDICATE··5 min READCLEARANCE: PUBLIC
"Western formals" is the standard MUN dress code, and almost nobody explains what it actually means. Here are the rules nobody tells you.
Men
Suit (matching jacket and trousers), formal shirt, tie, formal leather shoes. Black, navy, or charcoal suit. White or light blue shirt. The chair will pull you up for: chinos, sneakers, a tie pin shaped like an emoji.
Women
Suit (pant or skirt), formal shirt or blouse, closed-toe formal shoes. Or a formal dress with a blazer. Some conferences accept Indian formals — saree, salwar — explicitly. Check the delegate handbook.
What Gets You Pulled Aside
- ▸Sneakers, even white ones
- ▸Visible logos
- ▸Hoodies under a blazer
- ▸Open-toed shoes (most conferences)
// RULE OF THUMB
If you'd wear it to a wedding, you can wear it to MUN. If you'd wear it to brunch, you cannot.
