Your First MUN — A Survival Guide
// THE SYNDICATE··8 min READCLEARANCE: PUBLIC
Your first MUN will be confusing, exhausting, and probably embarrassing. Everyone's was. Here is the survival manual.
Before You Arrive
- ▸Read the background guide twice.
- ▸Write a one-page position paper even if not required.
- ▸Memorise three procedural motions: moderated caucus, unmoderated caucus, suspension of debate.
What to Bring
- ▸Laptop or notebook
- ▸Two pens
- ▸Power bank
- ▸Water bottle
- ▸Snacks (committee meals are erratic)
In Committee
Speak in the first hour. Even if it's a 30-second statement of position. Delegates who don't speak in session one rarely speak in session two. Your first speech is the easiest one you will ever give — nobody expects much.
// GENUINE ADVICE
Do not panic when the procedural language confuses you. Watch the experienced delegates for one session. By session two, you'll have it.
